Osteoarthritis
Osteoarthritis is a condition that can provoke pain, inflammation and swelling within the knee and hip joints. It can also affect other joints within the body.
In a healthy joint, cartilage covers and protects bones from friction. Without the cartilage to protect the bones, they can rub together causing pain and immobility.
There are many contributory factors to osteoarthritis. These include:
- Aging
- Obesity
- Damage to joints through injury
- Lifestyle issues
- Hereditary factors

Your diagnosis may involve an examination of the affected joint and an assessment of your symptoms.
An x-ray may also be required to assess the severity of your arthritis.
